Eurico Carrapatoso was born in 1962 and is a native of Bragança.
He obtained his Masters degree in History from the College of Letters of the University of Porto.
He began his musical studies in 1985, studying with José Luís Borges Coelho, Fernando Lapa, Cândido Lima e Constança Capdeville. In 1993, he completed the Course in Composition at the Lisbon National Conservatory, with Jorge Peixinho.
He was an assistant professor of Economic and Social History at the Portuguese University.
He has lectured in the field of composition at various institutions, namely, the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and the National Academy of Orchestra. Since 1989, he has been professor of composition at the Academy for Amateur Musicians and a full-time member of the composition faculty of the Lisbon National Conservatory. He has regularly been solicited by the important institutions of Portugal to do commissioned works and since 1987, his music has been performed, recorded and disseminated not only in Europe, but throughout the world.
He was the first winner of two composition prizes: the city of Tomar’s “Lopes Graça Composition Prize” and the “Prize of Francisco de Lacerda.”
His music represented Portugal in UNESCO’s International Conference of Composers, held in Paris for two successive years, 1998 and 1999 with Cinco melodias em forma de Montemel (Five melodies in the form of Montemel) and Deploração sobre a morte de Jorge Peixinho (Lamentation on the death of Jorge Peixinho).
In May 2001 he was honoured with the National Identity Prize awarded by the Historic Society of the Independence of Portugal.
On June 10, 2004 he was awarded by the President of the Republic with the Commendation of the Prince Dom Henrique.
