Title: Projeto Crossover

Artist: Performa Ensemble

Composers: João Pedro Oliveira, Sara Carvalho, António Chagas Rosa, Evgueni Zoudikine, Sara Carvalho, Isabel Soveral

Zzapping…
Did an engine come from somewhere out there,
And find a place to park itself?
Or did someone build a place to make a space for such a machine to land?
Did a booger-bear come from somewhere out there?
I have never seen anything like that! I like it!
Maybe its Guacamole queen…
Was it round? And did it have brakes?
Or was it something completely different?
Or did someone build a place,
Or carve a space for George’s gadget to land?
This is the kind of sound she makes… when her crab cakes!
She was a debutante floozy with a pink painted organ,
Down by the street she drove a ’59 Morgan.
She didn’t like it, when her carburetor leaked and got dirty.
Battery leak could almost cost her a quarter!
She didn’t want to stay home, and watch the pestle go mortar.
Later she says: miau, trrrrrr, uuhhhh, pop!
George’s thing… on Ruth! On Ruth!
And man, I am telling you, that’s Ruth!

Anamorphoses V, for string quartet, is part of the Morphoses cycle that includes pieces with electronics and pieces purely instrumental. The different pieces from this cycle, although distinct in form, follow the same criteria of sound material elaboration. In Anamorphoses V, the main sound material of Anamorphoses IV is applied to new contexts and gradually gaining new expressive qualities.
Angkor
The title Angkor derives from Angkor-Vat. I have never been in Cambodja but the stone decoration of the temples, in their endless choreographies and multiple dances are well known to me. This piece was conceived as a dance suite and is rather straight concerning the tempi. The last dance has a virtuoso character for both players and can eventually be played in concert separately, like an encore. The homophony of the words Angkor and encore contains the joke of the title… This piece was written in 1995 for the KammerensembleN of Stockholm for a series of concerts in Sweden and Holland the same year. Since then, Angkor has has been performed in several music festivals, from Caracas to Lisbon, Aveiro and Zurich.
